The Literacy Group of Waterloo Region is a volunteer, non-profit,
charitable organization dedicated to helping adults 18 years and older
improve their basic reading, writing and math skills to:
- increase their opportunities for better employment
- prepare for further education and training
- live more independently in the community

| Our Objectives |
- To provide communications and literacy services in the Regional
Municipality of Waterloo and surrounding areas.
- To improve basic skills in reading, writing and math.
- To recruit and train volunteers to become tutors, board members
and committee members.
- To promote community awareness and interest in literacy.
- To help adult learners take responsibility for their own
learning .

| Funding |
The Literacy Group receives funding from:
- Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities
- United Way Kitchener-Waterloo
- United Way Cambridge & North Dumfries
- Employment Ontario
We are also grateful for support from the community, the support of

a member), private donations, corporate giving programs and
local grants.
Thank you also to the Kitchener Public Library for donating our library
resources and shelving; the Kitchener Community Foundation for its
financial support of our adult programs; and the Zonta Group for
supporting the Women in Transition writing group. |
| Serving our Community |
| The Literacy Group has been serving Kitchener-Waterloo,
Cambridge, Elmira, New Hamburg, St. Jacob's and the rural community
since 1999. The Literacy Group was formed through the amalgamation of
Core Literacy, the Cambridge Literacy Council and the Literacy Council
of Kitchener-Waterloo. |

trained volunteers
to adults living in the urban and rural areas of Waterloo Region.
